　2020年は小坂中の生徒だけでなく一般の参加者も加わり7名で活動しました。

　案内する場所はこれまでと同じでも、ガイドメンバーが変われば案内もまったく変わります。ガイドクラブには上級生になったらやりたいと思っていたという生徒が参加してくれたことも感慨深いです。コロナの影響で外国人観光客はほとんどいませんが、本番は近隣在住の外国人の皆さんが12名も集まってくれ、練習の成果を存分に発揮することができました。

This year, there were 6 students and 1 adult participated in the guide club activity.  We guided Gandate Park as always, but the tour is never the same with different guide members.  What made me more happy is that there were students who had looked forward to joining the club when they became seniors.   

Despite the worries of lack of foreign travelers, 12 foreign residents around the town came and joined the tour, and it was the best present for the guide members to show their accomplishment. 

　昨年に引き続き今年も小坂中の生徒とともに、HIDA-OSAKA ENGLISH GUIDE CLUB活動を実施。今回は4名の3年生が自ら手を挙げ、がんだて公園の英語ガイドにチャレンジしました。休日や放課後に集まること全10回。がんだて公園でガイドさんから話を聞き、溶岩や滝にまつわることで一番自分が関心感動したことを言葉で表し、他者に伝える。しかも英語で。最初は不安に感じながらも4人で協力して表現を考え、何度も口に出して練習し、そして配布する資料からお礼の手紙まですべて手作りしました。

　本番は3名のアメリカ人がガイドツアーに参加。とても喜んでもらうことができました。成功を信じて時間をかけて準備したことは必ず実を結ぶ。子供たちにこのような成功体験の機会を与えることも自分の使命の一つと信じ、これからも取り組んでいます。

The 2nd year of Hida-Osaka English Guide Club.   4 local Jr. High students worked hard to express their local treasure in English.  They met 10 times on weekends  and after school to learn how to guide Gandate Park in English and also prepared the handmade flyer and present for the guests.  On the day of their debut on October 20th, 2019, 3 Americans visited the park and joined the walking tour led by the student guides.  The tour was full of discoveries for both guests and guides.  I believe the day would be long remembered as the day of the break-through for the students.

　2019年7月、昨年に引き続き米ユタ州で日本語を学ぶ高校生と引率教諭11名が小坂町を訪れました。2019年はホームステイを2泊3日に延長。下呂市と高山市からホストファミリーが集まり自然豊かな飛騨地域での滞在と地元中学生との交流を楽しんでもらいました。小坂と世界をつなぐ草の根国際交流は、これからも続けていきたい事業の一つです。

In July, 2019, total 11 high school students who learn Japanese in Utah, USA and their teachers visited Hida-Osaka.  They enjoyed home stay with local families for 3 days and attended an international exchange program with Hida-Osaka Jr. High School.  I put great importance in making opportunities for the locals, especially young generations, to meet people from other countries.  This was the second year from 2018 and it's becoming my mission to continue for years to come.

　温泉旅館オーナー様を対象に「旅館で使えるワンポイントおもてなし英会話教室」を開催（2019年6月）。直訳にとらわれずに、役立つ決まり文句や使い回しをしやすいお得な表現を中心に紹介。また外国人をご案内してきた中で私が気づいた「外国人旅行者が抱く旅館への共通のリクエスト」など、語学のみならずインバウンドのお客様に与える印象アップのキーポイントも含めた講座を実施しています。

I hold a "hospitality English" class for ryokan owners to help them receive international travelers.  Having some key phrases that make travelers feel happy and safe would help staff at ryokans greatly.  Also, I share my experience as a guide what international travelers think about ryokans and what ryokans can do to make them happier. 

　2018年8月から10月にかけて、地元小坂中学の生徒とともに、HIDA-OSAKA ENGLISH GUIDE CLUBを結成。がんだて公園を訪れる外国人のお客様に英語で案内できるようにクラブ活動を実施しました。まずは自らがんだて公園について学び、それから伝えたいことを絞って英語にするという作業を続け、10月に発表会という形で実際にがんだて公園を外国人に案内しました。それに合わせ、発表会に参加した外国人はおもてなし英会話教室に参加してくださった生徒さんのお店も訪問し、実践英会話教室も実施しました。

　参加者がそれぞれの立場で外国人と交流し、自分が学んだことが英語で伝えられたという成功体験を得る日となりました。

From August to October in 2018, I set up a group with local jr. high school students and worked together to guide international visitors Gandate Park in English.  They learned first about Gandate Park, and picked up what they want to tell the visitors most, then translated it into English.  Everyone worked very hard and they made a big accomplishment to guide several Americans in the park in October.  

On the same day, these Americans went to the shops owned by the locals who learned hospitality English half a year ago.  All had a successful experience that they could make themselves understood in English.  

　2018年7月、米ユタ州で日本語を学ぶ高校生と印速教諭16名を小坂町に呼び1泊2日のホームステイプログラムを実施。市内の小中学生の家庭からホストファミリーを募集しホームステイを行い、小坂中学校での交流会および小坂の滝めぐり体験を企画実行しました。

In July, 2018, I invited total 16 high school students who learn Japanese in Utah, USA and their teachers to Hida-Osaka to carry out an international exchange program.   

All students and teachers were welcomed by Osaka Jr. High School and spent a night with their host families in the city.  They also enjoyed Hida-Osaka Waterfall Trekking and fully enjoyed the time with the locals and outdoor activities.

　2018年5月、米ミシガン大学インターナショナルプログラム「日本のアートビジネス」を下呂市内に誘致。　ミシガン大学生徒および関係者24名が、都会の環境ではなく「田舎」を拠点とする芸術家に焦点を向けた授業として、下呂市在住の陶芸家およびステンドグラス作家の工房を訪問しました。

　また市民との交流バーベキューや小坂の滝めぐりへの招待等、地域住民との国際交流も兼ねた企画を実施しました。

In May, 2019, I invited 24 students and professors from University of Michigan-Flint to Hida-Osaka to have their international study program class of "The business of the arts in Japan."  They visited local ceramicist and stained glass artist to learn how they make a living.  

Along with the program, they enjoyed BBQ with local people and Hida-Osaka Waterfall Trekking.

　2017年12月から2018年3月に渡り、小坂町内及び近辺市町村の観光業従事者を中心に、おもてなし英会話教室を開催しました。

　歓迎の表現、手助けしたいときの声のかけ方、郷土料理や温泉の説明、道順や交通機関の説明など、より実践に近い小坂ならではの表現を中心に、時にはアメリカやオーストラリアからネイティブティーチャーの特別授業も交えて実施しました。

In Hospitality English Conversation Class held from December, 2017 to March, 2018, the locals who work in tourism came to learn how to express their hospitality, how to talk to people who need help, how to explain local dishes and hot springs, and how to explain the routes and transportation, etc., in particular  with the expressions related to Hida-Osaka.  There were special American or Australian guest teachers in some classes.
